There’s some weird dissonance reading Leosagi fics first before watching Samurai Rabbit: The Usagi Chronicles. I mean it, I enjoyed the fics, truly. But some of them made Yuichi more like Miyamoto Usagi than himself (and I’m not saying it’s a bad thing). It’s just funny after finishing 2 seasons of SRTUC because:

While Miyamoto Usagi has a resting bitch face, Yuichi did NOT inherit it. Yuichi has a resting space face when he’s not getting excited about his ancestor or Yokai.

2. He wants to be like his ancestor so bad, but he’s just too wholesome.

3. A lot of people have already said this in a lot of posts, but dude is a disaster (affectionate):

Whooping and swinging his sword and yelling he doesn’t need a sensei after making a promise to his auntie that he would find one and treat the sword with respect.

Almost got run over by heavy traffic (and is not aware of it)

Pissed off every single one of his would-be friends who were ready to beat him up.

Was given a wide selection of mystical weapons, and ended up with a yoyo because he got distracted by it. 

AND went to jail. That’s just his first day in Neo Edo. 

He is not easily distracted, he's "momentarily focused" on other things ("oh look, a bird!")

Went into a self-induced drug trip after trying so hard to meditate

4. While Yuichi can be spacey and distractible, he’s already a skilled swordsman with good instincts and reflexes. What he lacked was experience and something to temper his one-track mind.

5. When the show said he’s “all ears, no brain,” they meant it. Guy keeps syrup packets in his pockets so that he’s always prepared. (for desserts, ig) 

6. “All ears, no brain,” was said within his hearing range and it just went through his head because he’s too excited about fighting yokai like his great-great-greatx grandpa.

7. Has the selfishness and self-centeredness of someone with ADHD (and I’m not saying that’s a bad thing). He can be so caught up in wanting to be a hero, he would sometimes not listen to his friends, or hog the mission for a chance to be remembered for a thousand years.  

8. He wants to be the main character so bad:

Jumped into conclusions with Gen and made a wanted person escape.

Attacks yokai on sight to live out his fantasy of being like Miyamoto Usagi

Tries to pilot a giant robot and did well for 1.5 seconds.

Risks his life more than once by making contact with a giant magic crystal that could’ve burned him alive with too much power.

He’s goddamn lucky his show is for a younger audience or he’d be traumatized along with Leo (and his bros) from rottmnt, Luz from TOH, and MK from Lego Monkie Kid. 

9. Likes one-liners because it’s like in his comics/manga of his greatx grandpa. (”Put down the pig, or I’ll put down the hurt -wait, I can do better than that.”)

10. But yeah, all of that and he’s still a polite and considerate kid who sincerely wants to help people and his friends and will do the right thing because it’s the right thing to do. 

Saves the three people who were going to beat him up.

Got delighted when the three people who were ready to beat him up were there to rescue him. (”Are we friends now? :D”)

Wants to hug them in the first hour of meeting them.

Somehow convinced one of the most terrifying yokai to be his sensei.

Would babble about yokai in the middle of fighting one.

Risks the city for an alien.

Like I know some people can’t stand its animation. It’s not the best, but it’s not bad either. Anyway, this is the Yuichi Usagi that I have known from the show and I’m glad I’ve met him.

Misplaced AU

Okay so remember this post? Yeah here’s some designs:

Just and reminder I am only going based off the Samurai Rabbit from that Netflix Show. I haven’t read the comics and I only know Usagi’s character from his TV show and TMNT. Anyways here’s some context/ideas that I have come up for this AU

So this takes AFTER the movie, so I’ve always headcanon that after the movie Leo became a lot more serious and focused on protecting his family. Like to the point of training himself until he collapsed. However he does try to hide that from his brothers so not to ‘burden’ them.

Most of the time I see LeoSagi fics where Usagi tends to be the more mature or level-headed one compared to Leo. So I wanted to change that, this would be an AU where Leo is the more “mature” one and Usagi was more so goofing off. Leo would still crack jokes and so on. He wouldn’t be hiding his seriousness too much with Usagi and his friends. I wanted a story where it’s Usagi showing/reminding Leo it’s okay to make mistakes and to have fun. Which I think it’s a fun twist with these characters.

Okay I hope that made sense now onto the actual AU.

So when Usagi makes contact with the Ki-Stone Leo and his brothers were fighting in a museum where a piece of the Ki-Stone in this universe activated just as Usagi made content. Leo would notice one of his brothers being too close to the Ki-Stone as it activated which would make him push them out of the way.

Sadly for Leo that meant the Ki-Stone would end up grabbing him and taking him to Usagi’s world. The Ki-Stone created the clothing Leo is wearing in the drawing. It’s based off of Ninja/Shinobi painting in the 17th century. I did add some changes to the outfit so they can fit Leo’s character. I hope I did a good job at that.

Anyways throughout Usagi’s journey Leo would be helping him out since he is only way back home. Leo was mad at Usagi for a while, since it is his fault that he dragged there, however Leo does forgive him.

Leo still does have his powers in Neo Edo. He is also contacted to the Ki-Stone since it brought him there and a part of us literally a part of the Ki-Stone. If that makes sense?? Think of it as Leo 3/4 of his souls and the Ki-Stone is holding 1/4 of his soul.

Final detail I wanted to added, the flowers Usagi is giving are cameillias flowers. Which according to my research means love in Japan. Think of it as their roses for them.

I’m sure you’ve answered questions about future two’s personality but I always crave more so how is his relationship with draxum and one in the future? and also mikey and raph if you have the energy to

Good Future Two sort of enters a personal competition with Draxum that catches him off guard lol. He achieves a lot in a short period of time. Other than that, he doesn't have a great or bad relationship with him. He becomes more of a mentor and almost an equal to Two which is more than he would ask for so he's satisfied with it. Draxum helps him adjust to his job as his successor and Two ends up surpassing him by leagues, which Draxum is internally proud of, even thought it sort of intimidates him sometimes lolol. In a roundabout way, Two sort of fulfills Draxum's expectations for his intelligence.

Good Future Two has a better relationship with One but it kind of swings back and forth. After Splinter's death and when One's gone helping Usagi in Neo Edo (when they're around 18-20 I think), Two takes his absence as a betrayal. He feels abandoned because the dynamic between him and his family shifts when One isn't there, and One hasn't been out of the picture since they were 15. On top of that, Two doesn't take Splinter's passing well. But after that when One is able to balance his time in Neo Edo and New York and Two has settled into a growing professional life (Probably 30s), their relationship is similar to Leo and Donnie's canon relationship, but in a less fun more blunt font. Two's pretty wrapped up in his work, and One's kind of just wandering around so they don't see each other much, but they get along and Two has let go the grudges against him from the past.

I think even in the future, Two has a hard time engaging with his family, but it gets better with time, and his relationships with Raph and Mikey are overall pretty good.

Raph supports his work and listens to him talk about it. He's very supportive and still helps Two with any anger problems that come around. They work well together on missions as the iconic brains and brawn duo. I think it's still awkward between Raph and Two sometimes but it's mostly because they both overthink how they interact with the other. When they just relax and enjoy each other's company it's not as awkward.

Two gets along really well with Mikey. Mikey shares his art with Two, and sometimes they'll make stuff together, whether it's Two making art with Mikey, or Mikey lending his skills to help Two draft his projects, since he finds drawing to be a pain. Mikey thinks drawing for Two's project helps refine his skills is proud of the work they do together. He also inspires Two's projects sometimes and he'll often go to Mikey when he's got a brain block. Two also spoils Mikey a lot, especially after he gets a steady income lol. At some point, closer to the end of EMD One gets jealous of Two and Mikey's relationship, since it's so easy.

- She grew up in the prison dimension with Usagi and Kenichi, and applied to be a healer pretty early on in her life.

- She’s one of the strongest mystics from the prison camp, and was personally mentored by Lady Mura (who is the head sorcerer as well as an epic poet iykyk)

- Her original life plan was to move up the ranks to sorcerer, but then the portal out of the PD opened and she took that chance asap. Or at least she tried, but she ended up having sacrifice her escape goal to help Kenichi and stop him from bleeding out.

- She briefly met Leo, and the two were friendly enough to try and escape together.

- She gets this powerful mystic staff that had an ancient being (Kasaru-Tengu) in it, and accidentally kinda on purpose let said ancient being out. She and Kenichi are now the champions of Kasaru-Tengu, which is pretty neat (they also get glow ups which is nice)

Right (fullbody): Her before she met Kasaru-Tengu. She’s a lot more malnourished, and that Krang leg would probably have been a problem if Kasaru-Tengu didn’t change it.

Far Right: It’s a bust (I should probably start calling this head bc it’s literally just her head but whatever) and also her med kit.

Personality stuff and character details under the cut!!

So much got lost from the og Mariko of the comics, she’s so OOC she might count as an OC

- She’s kinda sarcastic and can come off as a bit of a bitch sometimes, especially because she’s an affectionate teaser type person and swears probably more than necessary.

- None of the authority figures like that she swears by the way, except maybe Kasaru-Tengu, who finds it more amusing than disrespectful.

- She’s been friends with Usagi and Kenichi since they were all tots

- Transfem and bi, but didn’t know the words for either of those things. She still doesn’t.

- She definitely struggles the least with figuring out plans, and the guys tend to look to her for advice. She’s probably the most competent, but also the most stressed.

- She’s got a really strong moral compass, which is why she became a healer, but she also kinda goes off on her own when people don’t agree with her morals. Did this lead to her rescuing Leo on her own? Yes. Did this cause her to basically get fired? Also yes.

- She’s not overly great at hand to hand combat, and mostly just magic blasts from her staff, but she can hold herself against one or two opponents unarmed.

- She and Kenichi are super close with the Neo Edo Crew, definitely closer than Usagi was. My plan for them (as of right now) is basically just episode one of the samurai rabbit series but with Mariko and Kenichi instead.

During the Tales of the Hidden City episode most of the Hamato Clan except for Splinter & Mikey end up getting arrested after spending one day out in the Hidden City

And something that, that reminded me of was how Yuichi actually got himself arrested on his first day in Neo Edo

Guard: So your first day in Neo Edo and you set a bunch of monsters loose and wound up in jail?

For some reason I find it kind of funny that Yuichi has something in common with most of Leo’s family in that they’ve all been arrested at least once, I like to imagine Leo accidentally mentions that he was arrested once & Yuichi would reply ‘you got arrested once? I got arrested once too!’

My Usagi Chronicles Headcanons

I may have only seen season 1 but here we go!

Usagi

Yuichi Usagi has Autism and Combine ADD

He's also gay but that's obvious

Is a midnight snacker

Usagi ate bugs as a child and still remembers which were the best tasting ones. If you ask him he will tell you.

Actually you don't even have to ask a butterfly would land near by and he would tell the nearest person about how surprisingly crunchy butterflies are

The nearest person is usually Gen. Gen knows too much on the tastiness of bugs.

Auntie once told him that it's the law for kids not to curse until they're 18 and he still believes it

Usagi is very good at repairing the Farm Robot, like to the point of being able to build a new one if given the tools.

The only reason he can do this is because of how much he broke the robot.

Other than that Usagi was almost completely helpless with technology when he first moved to the city. There was a learning curve. A steep learning curve.

Spot was a gift from Auntie to help Usagi get over the death of his parents

Spot is actually trained to help Usagi when he is in emotional distress

AT LEAST ONE TIME Usagi was arrested for trying to scrub Miyamoto Usagi's face off a dartboard

Once in awhile Usagi will say something so country his friends will have to ask him what he means.

He thinks it's funny not to explain

Had to listen to Chizu pine after Kitsune and was very confused why Chizu couldn't just tell Kitsune her feelings.

"It's easy to tell people your feelings. Like, okay, look. Chizu, you are like the sister I've never had and I appreciate you very much." "Aww, thank you Usa-" "You also snore so much I'm surprised you were a ninja and you sing off pitch in the shower." "USAGI!" " What, just telling you how feel. "

BONUS LEOSAGI: Understood very suddenly why she couldn't tell Kitsune how she feels and makes Chizu listen to his pinning (She gets back at him)

LEOSAGI: He ended up buying a pun book to try and impress Leo (it worked)

Gen (and to an extent Toshiko)

Gen used to eat dirt before becoming a hypochondriac

This is canon but takes on a lot of odd jobs to the debt

One of those odd jobs was painting Miyamoto Usagi's face on the dartboards (Yuichi Usagi doesn't know)

He is also oddly skilled in a lot of weird things. That's why he keeps getting hired

Gen = Abandonment issues

Toshiko = Commitment issues

Keeps trying to rebuild his bond with Toshiko by trying to do things they used to do as kids

Toshiko appreciates this but wishes her older brother would realize that she's not interested in that stuff anymore

Toshiko was also a bounty hunter just in another town

They are both very confused whenever someone asks if they're twins.

Gen is a trans man

There's free healthcare in Neo Edo. Gen does not know this.

FUN FACT (it's not a fact): Her twin tessens are from both her parents! They both had one to symbolize their love for each other! Now she's the only one of the family left she wields them both to carry them with her!

That being said she's very protective of them

Before they were dating, Chizu once tried giving her new ones because hers are old and that started a big fight

After they started dating, Kitsune told Chizu why she won't give her fans up. Chizu was very apologetic to say the least

Kleptomaniac

Has a box under her bed that has everything she stole but decided not to sell

Her room is the first place everyone goes to when something turns up missing

Curses the most

Actually figured out how to change the fridge's nickname to something other than "Ugh"

The fridge's nickname is now "Fucking Finally"

Usagi refuses to use the new nickname and just goes to her when he needs to use the fridge

Has woken up several times in the middle of the night because of this

My RotTMNT AU ramblings part 2

Part 1 here Mastapost (Feel free to ask me more, this is just kinda random stuff from my notes)

I’ll probably organise this into seperate posts for characters, but for now, enjoy my ramblings!

A lot of these are just headcanons if I’m being honest

- About a year post-Krang, Mikey started looking into mystics and magic. He eventually applied to the same school Gentry and Shini go to.

- After they were at the Jones’s, Raph spent days on end running around. He had to be reminded to eat, sleep, and drink water a concerning amount, and he spent a lot of time doing chores or standing watch while his brothers were resting. He would crash out on the sofa most nights, and after Mikey and Piebald found the New New Lair (patent pending), he stayed up late customising their new rooms, making sure they got better furniture and stuff than he did.

- By the time everyone moved in, he was living on a mattress on the floor of an open ended sewer tunnel, and they all had nice furniture and sheets. Mikey decided this Would Not Do and made Don, Leo, Splinter and April help him make a nice big room for Raph.

- My medic Leo headcanon is canon now. Whoopsie daisy. He meets Mariko briefly in the PD and they bond over that (and their mutual desire to escape but yk)

- Mikey has gossip sessions with Karai in the Abyss/the spirit realm/the astral plane

- Usagi, Shini, Gentry and Sunita are all super close, Shini and Gentry especially. After Mikey started going to school with Shini and Gentry, he also joins the group. Usagi’s still scared of him, but I might make a comic exploring their relationship? Idk.

- Leo hallucinates after being rescued from the PD. It’s usually pretty minor, just bugs and tiny things that aren’t there. The worst it ever got was when he had a panic attack about abandoning Mariko and Kenichi, and he needed a full on turtle pile for that.

- Mikey had massive separation anxiety when he was little and it kinda came back after the invasion. He latches onto Leo the most and has frequent panic attack when he’s not with his brothers. He and Raph have to work through that together

- Leo sometimes has to use crutches - his legs get a little messed up in the Prison Dimension, and he still has moments where he’s like, ‘whoa, gravity.’ Most of the time he was in the PD, he was floating around, aside from when he was being pelted into rocks, or at the labour camp.

- Raph’s eye had to be removed, and Don made a prosthetic. Raph specifically asked him to “not add anything flashy,” and Donnie agreed, only adding Crystal tech similar to the stuff in his goggles. How does Raph see with it? Simple! Leo and Donnie performed a highly experimental surgery to connect it to his optic nerve!

- Raph kinda wishes they didn’t bc they eye gets a little itchy sometimes, despite the surgery being a success.

- I have the vague semblance of an idea for Mariko and Kenichi befriending the Neo Edo crew, and actually being closer with them than with Usagi.

- Leo was actually the one who encouraged Mikey to learn mystics! One of Mike’s main hang ups is that his hands wouldn’t stop shaking post Krang, but after about a year, it stops being so bad. Once he starts using mystics he gets tired easier tho (eepy lil guy)

- One of the main points Leo brought up was that if Mikey did it, he could get all his old stuff back from before either lairs were destroyed.

- The first thing Donnie did after the Hamatos were settled at the Jones’ farm was listen to as many of Leo’s PD recordings, but there were over 2467 hours of them - most of them were deeply terrible Lou Jitsu and Jupiter Jim fanfictions, but in some, it sounds like Leo’s talking to or about other people, and in one, chillingly, Donnie could hear the Krang taunting Leo. He’s still sifting through the recordings, as well as the recovered data from Casey’s mask.

- Raph does not like pins and needles. He never did, but now it reminds him of his possession. He still hears the Krang voices sometimes.

- Usagi does get Spot! Shini gifts him to Usagi as a moving out gift when Usagi eventually gets his own place.

- Leo HATES the sound of scraping metal (it’s a trigger, same wit ‘wipe that grin/smile off your face’)

- He also had to get hearing aids post Krang

- April was run in back and forth between the Jones’ farm and her mum’s house a lot after the invasion. When she wasn’t there, she was either doing supply runs with Cass, Draxum and/or Casey, or she was sleeping.

- Junior’s still figuring himself out, and Cass eventually force enrols him into high school (you can’t tell me that guy is 20?? He’s like 16! At best!). There are some gaps in his knowledge, and other things he’s weirdly good at, but yk.

- He also gets a job as party captain at Albearto’s, and holds onto it significantly longer than April did.

- Sunita is a chronic pain girly and is in a constant state of “I might liquefy and any time, someone please help.” She learns that this has a name (Molecular Dissociation) a while after she starts working at Hueso’s, and starts using crustches and bandages to keep herself stable.

- Mikey started training with renet after he got into Gentry and Shini’s school.

- Casey grew up with some of the kids from the resistance (both before and after the invasion started). One of the major ones was Hueso jr, who was like an older brother to him. It really hurt seeing the little bone guy not remember him.

Why were Sunita and Usagi working at Hueso’s??

After Usagi started fighting in the battle nexus, Sunita started getting super into the nexus. This actually had nothing to do with Usagi, it started when she was loaned some old Lou Jitsu tapes from the guys for a research project. She started watching all the battles, including Usagi’s. Her favourite champion is Ghost Pepper (iykyk).

Then, Shinigami and Gentry devised a plan: they’d orchestrate a rigged raffle for backstage passes to the Nexus. The two made sure they got in, but… so did Sunita. Girl was so excited, but she forgot one big thing: Parental consent.

In order to go, she had to convince her dads, who only agreed when she said she’d work at Hueso’s for three months (bone man was super understaffed post Krang).

Then she met Usagi and used her super amazing connections (and the fact that Hueso was still understaffed) and pulled some strings to get Usagi hired.

So a lot of the people in the fandom want Usagi to appear in Rise if/when Rise ever comes back because Usagi appearing in TMNT media happens consistently: he appeared in the 1987 series, 2003 series & the 2012 series

So it’s obvious why people want Rise to get the chance to complete the tradition and have an Usagi of their own but there has been a debate on /which/ Usagi should appear in Rise.

Should it be Miyamoto Usagi or Yuichi Usagi?

2022 introduced a new take on the samurai by introducing Yuichi Usagi who is a descendent of Miyamoto Usagi many think that Yuichi is a better fit for Rise as like Yuichi is a new take on the samurai rabbit concept, the Rise turtles are a new take on the TMNT turtles. 

There are also those that say Yuichi would be a better fit with Rise because of the similarities his personality has with the Rise version of Leo.

I’ve seen a couple of Samurai Rabbit: The Usagi Chronicles/ ROTTMNT crossover fics where Leo ends up in Miyamoto’s world or Neo Edo or Yuichi ends up in New York & they have to figure out how to get Leo or Yuichi home but the thing is Rise has the opportunity to do something that hasn’t been done before with Usagi.

Traditionally Usagi & the Turtles live in separate worlds & when they meet it’s because one of them has ended up in the other’s world. The reason for the separate worlds is Usagi Miyamoto is well a samurai rabbit, he lives in a version of feudal Japan, he’s an anthropomorphic rabbit who can move about normally because he’s normal in his world while the turtles are not normal in theirs.

But Rise has an opportunity to actually make Usagi part of the Turtles world without taking away the characters original concept thanks to the concepts of Yokai & the Hidden City that were introduced in Rise 

Anthropomorphic animals are normal in Rise, Rise can make Usagi a Yokai, Miyamoto Usagi can be a samurai in Feudal Japan if the Yokai haven’t been forced into hiding at that point.

I’ve always kind of thought that Samurai Rabbit: The Usagi Chronicles is set in the same world that the 2012 Turtles visited considering they are both in the CGI style & Yuki Matsuzaki voices Miyamoto Usagi in both TMNT 2012 & Samurai Rabbit which makes me think they’re same world just set in different time periods so rather than have the Rise turtles jump worlds to meet Usagi I personally think that Rise giving the opportunity of having the Turtles & Usagi being from the same world by making Usagi a Yokai is too good of an opportunity to pass up & it also give the Rise team more freedom when developing their own version of Yuichi.

I really hope Yuichi get popular enough that we see different iterations of him, I love seeing different interpretations of the same character as they go through different iterations.

The fact that Rise has time travel also gives the opportunity for Rise to use both Usagi’s both Yuichi & Miyamoto if the Rise Turtles end up time traveling to feudal Japan they have the opportunity to meet Miyamoto Usagi & then meet Yuichi in their own time.

I have a funny scenario in my head where Leo time travels & meets Miyamoto first & then meets Yuichi.

Yuichi & Leo either get along immediately bonding over historical facts about Miyamoto Usagi or Yuichi & Leo argue a bunch before becoming friends because Leo keeps on telling Yuichi that his historical facts are wrong.

Anyway I’d really like to see an Usagi in Rise precisely because as I said, the Hidden City & the existence of Yokai give the opportunity for Usagi to be part of the Turtles world like never before.
